Post 5 Textured Assets

This week I have done the modeling and also do some texture for my model. As what is suggested on last meeting with my supervisor that some this model is from some free model websites. Because I wasn't able to model all of the model so I get from free model on the web then I do my own texturing on the model downloaded.

This is a bath tub that I have downloaded from http://www.3dm3.com/modelsbank/model88.htm. I have retexture the model

These three bookshelf is model by me and the texture is from cgtexture . These bookshelf is also model with udk collision box.

These two are table and chair for children. Both is also model by me. These also have collision detection for UDK as well. This table and chair is just color because table and chair for children is always in bright color to catch their attention. For Example:

This is a chopper for the kitchen. This model is downloaded from : http://www.3dmodelfree.com/models//18141-0.htm . This chopper will be put in the kitchen. I also retexture this chopper aswell.

This is cutlery downloaded from:
http://www.3dmodelfree.com/models//18140-0.htm . I use Mental-Ray Metal material to texture it.
This is filing cabinet downloaded from: http://www.3dm3.com/modelsbank/model159.htm.

This is a freezer that I have model . and use Mental ray material for the texture.

This Kitchen sink and the kitchen set is downloaded from : http://thefree3dmodels.com/stuff/furniture/sink/12-1-0-194#axzz1GuLIU4o9 (Kitchen Sink) ,
http://www.3dmodelfree.com/models//26901-0.htm ( Kitchen Set). Then retexture using mental ray material.

These are other model that I have build on my own and texture them. Some of the texture is build by myself and most of  the wood texture is from cg texture .

These model is downloaded from some websites that is free online to use as my assets. all of these model is retexture using my own texturing and mental ray material.

For next week I will start to model the level in udk and try to import all of these model into udk and place them inside the game engine.

Post 4 Assets Modelling

I will be using UDk for my level design
I have done some research on some of the assets that i will be modeling with. Then I also started to model some models.

I have also apply Collision detection box to all the model that I have model.
I have also meet up with my supervisor today. He had point out a lot of important stuff that I have not think about. For example the number of assets that  I am going to model. Because there is a lot of assets that will be in my level so it is not able for me to finish all the assets by the time that I have set in the proposal. he suggested me to look for free assets that is online Not all of them just those that is not important in the scene. This will also help on cutting my modeling time and have more time concentrating on those model to make it look nice. I have search some models online after having meeting with my supervisor. I have found this website that provide some model that is free to download. (http://www.3dm3.com/modelsbank/) It is a very good websites as well in the websites that also give tutorials on different software.

Looking for assets online also give me more time on texturing my model.
I will be continue modeling on my assets and texturing them by next week.

Post 3 Unreal / Unity Testing.

For this week I will be playing with Unreal and Unity. I have try something out with Unity and UDK.

I have build a map in Unity and import some simple model into it and start playing around with it. I do this according to the tutorials of unity. This editor is new to me so I follow the tutorials then I have learn a lot during the tutorial. The advantages of usig unity for building the level is that it is much more easier to import animation that is animated in 3d max and the interative with the game is good in unity. Then the bad thing about using unity is that the texturing in the game engine is very low quality and it is a new editor that I m not familiar with. This is what I have done in Unity

I have also try out UDK. This is the editor that I have more confident with because I have use this more then Unity. I had build a level using UDK and having it to work. Then I have also learn to model and import stuff to UDK and apply collision detection on the model. So the player can't go through. This is what I have done in UDK.

Since I have more confident to with using UDK and is easier for me to look for support with lecture. So I will be using UDK to build my level.

I have also started to look for model reference for my assets that will be in my level. For example

Post 2

Based on my idea after discussing with my supervisor I have done my proposal and send to my supervisor for feedback.
I have done some research on leveling design. read some book for level design as well.
The initial research I have research into different websites and read about levelling design and how is it working in game industry. I have also read some interview from people who work in games industry. This will also help me when I am designing the level.
But I am stuck with which level editor should I use for developing my level design.

For further research the first thing to do is to play around with both Unity and Unreal Development Kit. Then choose the game engine that is suitable for me to use for level editing. Then i also need to research into different assets that I need to include in my level design. Then I need to get reference picture and model of the asset and then I will start to build the assets that will be in the level. Then I got to research into texturing and some video or games that have similar view for reference.

Schedule:
